Going to the cinema is one of my favourite pastimes. Ollie and I have Odeon Limitless cards, meaning we can see as many films as we want, for £19.99 a month. That seems like a lot, considering Netflix is about £5.99, but in London, one cinema ticket alone will cost you £18, so it’s totally worth it to pay a little more to see every single movie, as many times as you want. Oh, and if you’re outside London, it’ll cost you £17.99 a month.
So, what have I seen recently?
After binge-watching the original IT films on the train to and from Devon, Ollie and I booked to see the new IT film as soon as it came out. I really enjoyed it overall, it was very cinematic, and the kids were hilarious. I’m keen for the sequel, but I’m not gonna lie, Pennywise terrified me. Too many teeth!
Blade Runner 2049
After finally watching the original Blade Runner film, we went to see the new Blade Runner 2049. I really enjoyed it, but it was quite a long film for my attention-span after a long day. It was emotional, thrilling, had great CGI… a great film!
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Okay, this came out quite a while ago. However, I’ve seen it at least twice, and I had to include it because it’s so damn good!
Another film from back in the summer, but some cinemas are still showing it! We ended up paying extra for BFI IMAX tickets… oops? I can’t get enough!
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
I love the original Kingsman, and I adore this one too. The humour is spot-on, and the special effects are great. The plot and characterisation were perfect, I’d totally see it again… and again.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard
I’ve seen this twice already, it’s hilarious! I love the chemistry between Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds.
Wonder Woman was amazing. Definitely the best DC film I’ve seen since The Dark Knight / Dark Knight Rises. Suicide Squad was a let down, but Wonder Woman was perfect!
There was a fair amount of criticism regarding the new Mummy film, but I liked it a lot… and I’m an MA archaeology student. I did have a few nightmares afterwards, but that’s typical for me.
Pirates of the Caribbean 5
To be honest, it was a bit crap. I wouldn’t watch it again! The first three Pirates of the Caribbean films were great, then it went a bit downhill.
The Circle is a Netflix film starring Emma Watson. It’s a bit similar to the Black Mirror episode about social media, but I don’t want to give any spoilers!
Ghost in the Shell
I missed the final 10 minutes or so, because I was really tired, but I’d definitely watch Ghost in the Shell again. I love dystopian / sci-fi films. It was similar to Blade Runner 2049, both worth seeing!
The Batman and Harley Quinn Movie
I love cartoons. Adventure Time, Rick and Morty, Bojack Horseman, Scooby Doo… and DC cartoons. This film was great! I totally ship Batman with Harkey Quinn.
Action spy thriller based in Berlin, with a super-cool female protagonists. Lots of plot twists, exciting, and an awesome aesthetic. I loved it,
Gaga: Five Foot Two
I was never really a Lady Gaga fan, but I’m addicted to Netflix documentaries about musicians… She’s pretty damn talented, and so passionate about music, it was really inspiring.
Damn, that was a lot of films. There’s a few more on my to-watch list, including Baby Driver, Cars 3 (I’m cool okay), and the latest Thor film. We’ve already got our BFI IMAX tickets ready for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, I absolutely can’t wait! Now, back to Stranger Things 2!
