I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about Autumn. It’s my favourite time of year… did you know my birthday is on Halloween?! You probably did, it’s such a defining feature of my personality. Scorpio vibes all round. Anyway… Netflix has so many upcoming releases throughout this season, so I thought I’d share the ones I’m most excited for. I’m very keen for those cosy evenings indoors with a mug of cinnamon hot chocolate, watching my favourite shows while it’s chilly outside. Magical. So, here are my recommended upcoming Autumn Netflix picks!
Surviving R. Kelly, September 15th
R. Kelly was charged this year with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault. This 6-part Lifetime documentary is coming to Netflix in a few days, and while it is probably quite upsetting (especially as a sexual assault survivor), it’s important to raise awareness and feel solidarity with the victims.
Living With Yourself, October 18th
The idea behind this new Netflix Original series intrigued me; Living With Yourself is all about a man called Miles (played by Paul Rudd), who tries an experimental treatment to improve his life. This results in him getting replaced by a better version of himself. I really enjoy comedies with deadpan humour, so I’m expecting to binge-watch this!
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, October 11th
It’s been so long since Breaking Bad, but man that was a good show. I enjoyed Better Call Saul too, but I’m definitely more excited for some Jesse Pinkman in the upcoming Breaking Bad movie!
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 3, October 2019
I LOVE the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. It’s like the show was made for me! The witchy aesthetic is perfect for Autumn. The new series comes out at some point in October, I’ll be keeping an eye out for the release date.
The Crown, Season 3, November 17th
The Crown is brilliant, I absolutely loved the first two seasons. Claire Foy was wonderful, and I can’t wait for Olivia Colman to continue her journey and portray a later era of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
Bojack Horseman Season 6, Autumn 2019
Bojack Horseman is an adult animation, tackling themes of depression, trauma, racism, sexism, asexuality, addiction and destructive behaviour in a satirical, comedic fashion.
I’ve been waiting for more Bojack Horseman for what feels like forever. I need some more Todd in my life, bless him. There’s not an exact release date yet, but it’ll definitely be this autumn. I’ve missed that brilliant opening sequence!
Disenchantment Season 2, September 20th
Disenchantment is a cartoon series by Matt Groening (famous for The Simpsons and Futurama), focusing on a rebellious, alcoholic princess. This show doesn’t beat Bojack Horseman, Rick & Morty or Adventure Time in my ranking of cartoons, but I love the satirical humour – it’s worth a watch.
American Horror Story 1984, September 24th
I’ve been quite on-and-off with American Horror Story. I really enjoyed the last series though (mainly due to the return of the witches from Coven), so I’ll give this a watch. I’m sad that Evan Peters won’t be returning for this season, but the 1984 theme sounds good… I’m here for 80’s vibes!
And that concludes my upcoming Autumn Netflix picks. I’m most excited for Part 3 of the new Sabrina series, and to see Olivia Colman in The Crown. She was brilliant in The Favourite!
Are you looking forward to any of these upcoming Netflix releases? Let me know! If you’d like to hear about what I’ve been watching over the summer (and the best popcorn to snack on!), make sure to check out my current Netflix favourites blog post.
All the best,
