What To Look For When Buying Your First Home

When this guest post first landed in my email inbox, I dismissed it as “not relevant” to me. At this point in life, a struggling MA student in London, it feels like I’ll be renting forever. However, I’m sure that isn’t the case for a lot of you, and this has some pretty good advice. Lots of my blogger freinds have been buying their first homes recently, so it’s quite topical! Some of this advice is also applicable for renting; I wish I checked the windows in this flat before we moved in, because some of them don’t close properly,…

Cheap Celebration Ideas for Students!

From exam results and birthdays to friendship anniversaries and new relationships, student life is full of opportunities to celebrate. No matter what the occasion, finding a way to make it special need not break the bank. Have a picnic If the celebration coincides with a spell of good weather, why not head out to a local park or forest instead of the making the usual trip down to the local. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to show off your culinary skills, you’ll find plenty of recipes for snacks and treats you can enjoy in the great outdoors, but ultimately,…

10 Things I Wish I’d Known Before Starting University

I remember feeling like a rabbit in the headlights when I started university. There was so much advice flying around about what was important, what I should be doing, how I should be managing my time and annoyingly, most of it was conflicting. Here are a few things I wish I’d known before the start of the first term. I’m now two months into my Master’s degree – I’ve learnt a lot since first year! Buy second hand books It’s so tempting at the start of term to buy everything shiny and new, but over the length of your course…

Films I’ve Seen Recently

Going to the cinema is one of my favourite pastimes. Ollie and I have Odeon Limitless cards, meaning we can see as many films as we want, for £19.99 a month. That seems like a lot, considering Netflix is about £5.99, but in London, one cinema ticket alone will cost you £18, so it’s totally worth it to pay a little more to see every single movie, as many times as you want. Oh, and if you’re outside London, it’ll cost you £17.99 a month. So, what have I seen recently? IT After binge-watching the original IT films on the…

How to Plan the Ultimate Birthday Dinner in London

In case you didn’t already know, my birthday is on Halloween! This year I’m having an epic party at the weekend of course, complete with Halloween fancy dress and themed cocktails. I’ll be turning 22 (eww I wanna stay 21 forever), and as the 31st falls on a Tuesday this year, I’ve left it to my boyfriend to organise a ‘civilised meal’ for the evening, after I’ve had a few pints with my work friends… Today’s guest post is perfectly timed, because it’s all about planning the ultimate birthday dinner in London. I’m assuming Oliver has already made arrangements for…

Easy Ways To Personalise Your Student/Rented Home!

Living in student accommodation or rented homes can often be a challenge to decorate. You can’t nail up any pictures or screw in any shelves, you can’t choose your appliances, or even your furniture in most cases. Here are some of my tips to decorate your student room or rented home easily, without risking your deposit. Furniture & Furnishings As a student, I’ve only ever lived in furnished properties, because I certainly can’t afford to buy a bed, or transport one for that matter! I can’t wait until I can get myself a nice bed with a frame, but until…

Pastel in Autumn

So, I was planning a super awesome blogging comeback, bought a snazzy new theme from Pipdig, got all motivated… Then I didn’t blog for nearly a month. TYPICAL EMILY. Hi, I’m still alive. I started an intercollegiate MA at King’s College and UCL, it’s been manic. This is literally my first actual day off in a month, because I’m at work whenever I’m not at uni, but today’s class got cancelled, yay! I’ve got 5-7 hours worth of Greek homework to do by Friday, but for once I’m going to spend some time blogging… Priorities. I am by no means…
