Cozy Hobby Idea: Custom Paint By Numbers | Davincified Review

AD – this product was sent to me for review.

You know I’m all about cozy hobbies for self-care, from book binding to cozy gaming to embroidery.

There’s something so soothing about keeping your hands active and focusing your mind on a creative activity after work or on the weekend.

Add a candle and some lo-fi beats and my nervous system is content for hours.

So when Davincified reached out and asked if I’d like to review one of their custom paint by numbers kits, it felt like the perfect fit.

I didn’t even realise you could get a custom paint by numbers canvas until now. You simply upload a photo and it gets turned into a ready-to-paint kit.

It’s such a lovely concept, and I immediately thought: these would make the perfect gift for someone who loves crafty hobbies (please forget you read this, Mum!).

What Your Kit Comes With:

  • Reference pictures so you can see the final picture you’re working towards.
  • A large paper version of your picture with the numbers printed on. Very helpful if you end up halfway through a section and can’t remember what number it is!
  • Paints. You can choose from 24, 36 or 48 colours. The higher the number, the more complex your painting will be, and the longer it will take.
  • Your canvas. Mine is the rolled canvas, but they also sell stretched canvas versions (with wood to stretch it over). A great option if you’d prefer something ready to hang straight away or gift someone.

There are also optional add-ons: extra paint if you’re worried about running out (I had plenty with my kit and didn’t need any top-ups) and brushes if you don’t already have some.

My experience with Davincified (and the style I went for):

There were so many choices, it took me a while to pick one.

I was considering a pet designs in a fun Royal portrait or fantasy style, but eventually settled on the Anime cartoon style based on one of my favourite photos.

I chose the 24 colour kit. Despite it being the lowest number of colours, it still took me many hours to complete. Don’t underestimate it!

I spent the majority of a Sunday afternoon painting, then went in after work on a couple days to finish off the finer details. It made for a really calming wind-down routine.

My approach to start with was focusing on one colour at a time, then I quickly realised that doing specific areas made a lot more sense. Turns out leaning over a large canvas to do all of the black sections would naturally result in paint on my arm. Lesson learned!

Overall, this was such a soothing yet focused activity, and I’d definitely enjoy painting one again.

It’s a great idea for those who want to experiment with painting as a hobby but aren’t yet skilled enough to create a full piece from scratch.

Here’s the final result… unless I end up making any more tweaks! Anyone else find it super hard to ‘finish’ a craft?

If you’re looking for a cozy, focused hobby that gives you something beautiful to keep or gift at the end of it, I’d genuinely recommend giving Davincified a try.

The custom element makes it feel so much more personal than a standard kit, and the whole experience from choosing your image to finishing the last section is really satisfying.
