When people talk about self-care, it’s often bubble baths, face masks, or curling up with a book. Lovely, of course, but there’s something extra special about taking yourself out on a solo date.
Spending intentional time with yourself is an act of love!
For me, it’s a confidence boost, and a way to recharge without needing anyone else’s schedule, opinions, or preferences to align.
So if you’re ready to romanticize your life to the max like me, here are some of the best solo date ideas for self-care and treating yourself with a little extra love.
Why Solo Dates Are the Ultimate Self-Care
First a little reminder about why you want to do this.
Solo dates can:
- Build confidence and independence.
- Provide a way to enjoy your interests without compromise.
- Break up routines and spark joy.
- Offer mindful, quality time with yourself.
Cozy & Low-Key Solo Date Ideas
It doesn’t need to be extravagant.
Sometimes the simplest moments really are the sweetest.

1. A creative date with yourself
Paint, journal, scrapbook, or start a new project.
Put some calming music on in the background. Lofi girl on YouTube is my go-to.
Pictured above is a journal I made for my friend (@bibliophile_daydream on Instagram), who is super into fantasy books. Book binding is currently my favourite creative hobby for mindfulness!

2. Bookshop browsing + café stop
Peruse the shelves at your own pace, then settle into a café with your new read and a delicious latte (or any other hot drink).

3. Picnic in the park
Pack your favourite snacks, a blanket, a book/journal/art supplies, and your headphones.
This one is perfect for a slow Sunday afternoon in summer.
4. Have an at-home movie night
Light some candles, grab your cosiest blanket, and make your favourite comfort food.
The key here is to make it feel cozy and special!
Choose something new or put on a cozy classic like a Studio Ghibli film.
Kiki’s Delivery Service is my fave.

5. A mindful baking session
There’s nothing like trying out a new recipe for a a sweet treat.
Recently I made some super tasty s’mores brownies on a rainy afternoon, enjoying the process while listening to an audiobook. Heaven!
Solo Adventures
These ones are for when you’re in the mood to get out into the world and explore.

1. Visit a Museum
As a bona fide museum girly, this is naturally one of my favourite solo dates!
I love exploring museums I’ve never seen before (and my favourite haunts), soaking up the art and atmosphere.
Check out my favourite museums in London.
2. Take a class
Pottery, yoga, dance, languages… learn something new while meeting like-minded people.
Recently, I’ve taken up Reformer Pilates. It’s so fun while mindful at the same time!

3. Try a new coffee shop or bakery
Order something indulgent you wouldn’t usually go for.
When I come across interesting bakeries in London, I add them to my Google Maps with a little croissant icon, so I can check one out when I’m in the area.
One that’s been on my list for a while is Fortitude Bakehouse, apparently their beignets are amazing!

4. Cinema night
Enjoy the luxury of picking exactly the film you want to see (and the popcorn is all yours!).
Many cinemas do screenings of old favourites like Star Wars. Why not take yourself to see one of your favourites?

5. Solo day trip
Explore a nearby town, garden, or historic site for a change of scenery.
I went on a day trip to Margate earlier this year and loved it.
Memberships like National Trust and English Heritage are great for this!
Wellness & Self-Connection Dates
Self-care is about rest and restoration as much as fun. These solo date ideas focus on wellbeing.

1. Sunrise or sunset walk
It’s grounding, simple, and absolutely free.

2. Spa day or massage
Whether you book in or DIY at home, give your body a bit of love.
I’ve actually never been for a massage myself, but I’ve had a facial and I loved the experience!

3. Yoga in the park
Or simply take a long nature walk to clear your head.
Walking through the woods is a favourite for me, especially in autumn,

4. Meditation class or a sound bath
This is great for deep relaxation.

5. Digital detox day
Switch off your phone, journal, cook something nourishing, and let yourself recharge.
I’ve been using ScreenZen for the past year to block social media apps, which is working really well for reducing screen time.
And when I am “allowed” to access social media, it makes me do a box breathing exercise before the app unlocks. Game-changer!
Tips for Making the Most of Solo Dates
- Dress up for yourself, or stay cozy. Either way, make it feel special.
- Be present: resist the urge to check your phone, and really soak up the moment.
- Plan ahead and block out time in your calendar if you know you’ll talk yourself out of it.
- Start small if you’re nervous! Take yourself for an afternoon coffee shop visit before a going on full-day outing.
Solo dates are one of the most underrated forms of self-care.
They help you connect with yourself, build confidence, and create joyful moments that are just for you.
So, this week, why not take yourself out?
Whether it’s a bookshop browse, a nature walk, or a day out exploring a museum, your future self will thank you.
All the best,
