Pinterest Power Book Review & Pinterest Tips for Bloggers and Small Business Owners

Let’s talk about Pinterest, and how to optimise your profile for success!

Whether you’re a blogger, a business owner, or marketer… you should be on Pinterest.

Why Bloggers Need To Use Pinterest

Pinterest is a visual search engine with social media features.

It’s truly a goldmine for getting free organic traffic to your blog.

Pinterest has grown tremendously since its inception and now has over 100 million users.

All bloggers should use Pinterest because it’s free, easy to set up, and drives traffic back to your blog posts!

I’ve found that Pinterest is easiest social platform to grow: I have over 13,000 followers now, compared to my Instagram account with 1,400 followers.

Pinterest Power by Jason Miles and Karen Lacey

Pinterest Power

I’ll start off by saying that this book was written in 2012, which I kept in mind while reading it, as some things said are a bit irrelevant now.

When I was new to Pinterest, Pinterest Power was a useful book for me, but I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who is already quite familiar with the site.

I’d recommend finding a more up-to-date book or checking out Big Pin Energy.

Pinterest Power has a whole section on monetising, which is great for bloggers, as well as small business owners and Etsy sellers.

There’s another book called Instagram Power by the same author, Jason Miles, so I might check that out because I’m trying to improve my Instagram at the moment.

What did I learn from Pinterest Power?

  • Pinning regularly is important, but don’t pin a ton of things at once. It’ll annoy your followers, and Pinterest could delete your account for spam.
  • Be specific with your boards and very selective with what you pin. Quality over quantity!
  • Make sure to use keywords in your pin descriptions and board titles so they can be found, and make sure that boards are properly categorised. For example, don’t pin a recipe blog post on a board about bullet journals.
  • Creating ‘pinnable’ graphics for blog posts is useful. These should be vertical and have clear text on.
  • Get involved in the community by following, liking, and re-pinning other people with similar boards and niches. You could also join some group boards, or give Tailwind a try for their ‘communities’ feature. If you join Tailwind with my link, you’ll get a free month to try out the features.
  • Use Pinterest Analytics and Google Analytics to find out your most popular boards and pins, then create more similar content.

After reading this book, I scoured through my Pinterest Analytics and re-arranged my boards. I’m also in the process of adding relevant descriptions with keywords my pins so they can be found easily through Pinterest search.

I discovered that my witchcraft and journalling boards are the most popular ones, and my most popular pin is a vertical image with clear text I designed on Canva. I’ll make sure to design my future blog post pins with this in mind!

Pinterest Power was a great start for me, but if you want to learn how to take your blog to the next level, I recommend Big Pin Energy.

My traffic has skyrocketed since reading this ebook and implementing these strategies! I’m now receiving 30,000 page views per month, which is a huge step-up for me.

Pinterest Power. Is this Pinterest Marketing Book from 2012 still relevant in 2020?

  1. I’m actually a newbie when it comes to Pinterest and I have no clue as to how the site functions, so this was an all in all helpful post! I don’t think I’d go to the extent of actually buying a book about pinterest, honestly, haha, but this was a nice little insight!
