The Changing Look of Music

The Changing Look of Music

You all probably know by now that I’m really into music, I studied music for A-Level, and I play the guitar and sing (I upload covers occasionally to YouTube… when I remember). I’m also interested in fashion, so I love looking at how fashion and music influence each other, and how an ‘image’ can be so important for musicians. Think of Elvis, David Bowie, The Beatles, Freddie Mercury, Madonna… their images are almost as famous as their music! This is equally applicable nowadays, and I find it fascinating to see how the styles of artists like Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga evolve.

In light of that, today I’m sharing an infographic from Gearooz showing the changing look of music in modern times, using examples of some popular artists like Rihanna, Justin Bieber etc – not the kind of music I listen to personally, but I still find it interesting to see how the personal styles of musicians develop and fluctuate according to trends. Do the female artists become increasingly sexualised? It definitely appears so in the cases of former country gals Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, but I think some more alternative artists like Lady Gaga show that you can dress however you want and still be successful.

Have a look at the infographic here:

This post was very refreshing, I loved your style. I liked the infographic but it also made me sad. We live in an era in which it’s very difficult to be original and most of the songs are very similar. Nevertheless it’s always refreshing to see artists trying new things.

    • Thanks Cristina! It’s so true, I’m not a fan of most modern music at all, especially pop auto-tuned kind of stuff.
